The days of extravagance and excessive homes seem to be over. Remodeling homes has definitely taken a turn in the right direction. San Diego is now one of the leaders in the nation for green home renovations and sustainable construction.
While home remodeling has dramatically decreased due to the economy, sustainable remodeling has increased. Eco-friendly remodels are now seen as cutting edge, modern, as well as practical long term investments. The glitz and glam of opulence is no longer desired, but instead, practicality and environmental consciousness is the new standard for home renovations.
Many are using new green products to become more energy efficient and save money. Long gone are the days of 4 car garages, marble flooring, and expansive water consuming landscaping. Instead, these are the days of bamboo flooring, recycled insulation, and drought resistant landscaping.
Not only are housing materials going green, but downsizing is now more popular than ever. Many have turned to closer quarters to save money while also living a more eco-conscious lifestyle.
Along with smaller spaces, the renovations being made to homes across the country are endless. Rain water collection systems are being installed, tankless water heaters are being purchased, solar installations are being installed, recycled wall paper is being tacked up, green appliances are flying off the shelves, and the list goes on.
We’re not just talking about the top economic percentile either. These renovations are occurring in homes across the country, in middle class America. From urban areas to agricultural areas, from big city to small town, eco-friendly renovations are catching on, and in the meantime, saving everyone a little cash.

Good to know that instead of going overboard with extravagant home renovations and ridiculously large homes, we’re moving in the right and responsible direction of green construction. As a California local this is music to my ears, the extravagant and wasteful ways of so many has gone too far! Great to know this “trend” is changing.
Love the video…quick and informative. Nice to “see” these projects in action versus reading or hearing about them. With good planning they integrate well into the home project. Well done.

I just recently turned to solar panels as a heating system for my pool at home, not only does it work great but it also saves me a massive amount of money every month on… definitely recommend it to anyone else!
